Zekhiamin does his deed-2

I don't know.  The rest distracted me, and I like him and the baby, alone.

New Ideas

I'm currently working on a cityscape silhouette of Ostell.  It'll take a while, I think.  I'll also be making some more character busts.  Wishing everyone a fun Fourth of July weekend!

Musarah Visits Mekin

Mekin was buried beneath his favorite tree, and Abbot Musarah often visits him, offering things he liked in life.

Bestowing Knowledge and Blessings

A past scene at the cathedral, when Mekin openly broke the rule of not teaching outsiders any knowledge a priest is given during his lifetime.  Yet another reason why poor Mary is hunted.

At the Stone Effigy

Mary and Enker reach Ostell, and find much of the city still in a state of mourning.  A large effigy of the city's beloved priest was installed at the gates of the cathedral.  Mary is consoled as the likeness of the statue is unbearable for her heart.

Enker

Enker's ready for a scrap.

Marion and Enker

Upon hearing of her love's death, Mary flees Ostell for her life, afraid she is somehow to blame for Mekin's end.  Traveling for some time with a group of people who are on a pilgrimage to the sea, she parts ways and meets Enker, a man who hears her lamentable tale and wishes to help her.  Convincing her to return to Ostell to see her love's resting place and find closure, Enker and Marion begin a two week journey.  Here, they rest, Enker crouching down to pass a canteen of water.

Zekhiamin Hunts

Could he have found Mekin's killer?  He won't be resting a wink until he does, and Marion is on his list of people to find and question.  If anyone is wondering, the Zehils come from a family of winged people.  These wings, they will into being whenever they have use of them, although they try their best to hide them at all costs.

Sergius

A character silhouette for a friend of mine.  Sergius, the servant.

Demon Hunter Zekhiamin

This is Mekin's fanatical uncle, Zekhiamin Zehil, who was once a member of Ostell's Holy Guard.  Now, he roams the countryside, ferreting out what his confused mind considers to be "demons" or "tainted ones."  The death of his wife during childbirth caused his mind to snap.  He has learned the ways of entering people's minds, and is a force to be reckoned with.

A Night of Peaceful Moments

Mary and Mekin, enjoying each other's company when the day is done.

Dragonfish and His Ladyfriend

Here is another silhouette that I made for another person.  Here, we have Dragonfish, a pirate from the land of Oceania who often enjoys a good smoke and sardines.  He rests his head on the lap of his ladyfriend, who receives visits from him while he is not at sea.

Leisure Scene

Marion embroiders and Mekin paces, as he is often seen doing.  Hopefully, he'll settle down and relax for once.  I guess it's good enough to see him dress down and wear civilian clothes.

Three Generations of Clerics

Here we have a handful of priests, making their way to service.  Head abbot, Musarah, bangs a small gong, calling people to join them.  Two novices in training follow behind Mekin.

Piggyback!

While he's not occupied with work and his own worried thoughts, Mekin actually enjoys himself.  Mary hitches a ride on his back, and all is well for the moment.

A Priest's Struggle

This image represents Mekin's tug of war between duty and love.  He wears the traditional robes of a priest of Ostell, which include the hat at his feet.

Mekin Bust

Here is one of the high priests of Ostell, Mekin Zehil.  He is the male lead in my story and is often struggling with his feelings for Marion and his role as a priest.

Marion Bust

This little lady is Marion Godae, one of the main characters in my story.  She wears the badge of the holy city, Ostell.  The ten pointed star represents the ten virtues she aspires to have in life.

Mahr Bust

This six eyed, wide jawed fellow is Mahr, made as a gift for an illustrator friend of mine.  I thought that putting such a wild man in a top hat would be funny, and he reminds me a lot of Mister Hyde.

Beginning at the beginning

Hello, everyone!  I've started this blog in hopes of getting some useful critiques of my work-I've been out of college for a year now and miss having my teachers around.  Although I make silhouettes in my spare time, as a hobby, I would someday love to include them in my larger body of work-make them gallery worthy and bring a fresh take on this traditional art into the world.
I have many inspirations.  I follow the work of Kara Walker, Lotte Reiniger, Andy Smetanka and Michel Ocelot, along with all of the other silhouette artists of the past.
Please, enjoy your stay here, enter my world of black and white and give suggestions!
